There is a local Esso Service Station which I feel deliberately force Pay-At-Pump customers to enter the store by failing to ensure the system works at the pump. On every occasion I’ve given them another chance by trying to use the Pay-At-Pump system it fails to give me a receipt, forcing me to go in to the shop.
The store are advertising Pay-At-Pump heavily with large banners and flag-type poles with the signs promoting it. In addition to this, on each of the occasions mentioned, roughly once a month since the station was rebuilt 18months ago, there has be NO SIGN saying the Pay-At-Pump was out of order.
The latest time, I thought I would give the station a chance to fix the problem by speaking to the manager. (Previous brief mentions to the assistant had obviously gone unnoticed). The counter assistant seemed annoyed at my question by saying to his colleague, “We have another customer who wants a receipt from Pay-At-Pump!”….Like it’s a special privilege, not a government requirement.
In addition to this, the counter assistant didn’t even know the manager’s name, nor was he or the other assistant able to provide contact details on letterhead, compliment slip, complaint form, business card…even a piece of paper with a pen.
Although experiencing a high level of what could be seen as neglect, but is more like a wicked moneymaking scheme by service station managers, I feel that this could be more widespread than just Abingdon Esso. Advertising standards should be on top of this Con.
Is it just me or are we being taken advantage of with false advertising and devious schemes to extract extra revenue?
If the Pay-At-Pump doesn’t work – lose the advertising, billboards, facility. Stop wasting our time. Contrary to what you may believe I don’t want to be inside a shop at all if I can help it – least of all, when all I want to do is put petrol in my car.
Don’t even get me started on the price-fixing….
