Re: Jubilee Line Closure on Saturday Saturday 13th November 2010
I purchased tickets for my daughter and two friends as an early Christmas present to see Paramore at the O2 venue in Greenwich. We live in Dunstable but having travelled to the venue before found the easiest route is to drive to Stanmore and get the train straight to the venue. As these are three 16year olds we wanted the journey to be straight forward as we have always found this to be the case.
However on arrival at the station they were informed that the Jubilee line was closed and they were advised to take a bus to Wembley, then get a train to Waterloo, then get a bus from there to Greenwich. This they duly tried to do however it was time consuming and upon arrival at waterloo they could not find which bus to get on to get to their venue.
My daughter had the foresight to phone me and I telephoned and was advised to tell them to get on the 118 bus which would take them straight there. However by this time they had already missed the start of the show still they went and waited for the bus and then when the bus eventually arrived some 30 minutes later they could not get on as it was full so they had to get a taxi which cost them another £35 just so they could get to the venue.
Eventually they arrived but as the delays in travel meant that the straightforward journey had now taken almost 3 hours meant that they had missed considerable time at the event, it also meant they had to leave early for the three hour trek back to ensure they could get back.
Whilst I realise these things happen I do not think the alternative transport or information given was that helpful not to mention the cost and inconvenience of the extra time spent travelling was good after all they should have been enjoying their concert. They did after all leave in plenty of time for the normal journey and purchased their tickets in good faith.
I would appreciate an explanation as to why this happened and look forward to your early response as to what steps will be taken to recompensate 3 very dissapointed and tired teenagers on what should have been a straightforward journey which turned into a nightmare one.
Yours faithfully
